Omowura “Will” Adedayo is a visual artist and Fine Arts major at Florida A&M University.
His work explores themes of healing and identity, using water as a central metaphor. Strongly influenced by his Yoruba heritage, his practice examines the duality of life through color and imagined landscapes.
"A central pillar of my practice is water, which functions as a recurring metaphor throughout my work. I am drawn to its duality as a powerful force— particularly its complex relationship to Black people, where it holds deep symbolic meaning in African cultures while also serving as a vessel of historical pain. Through water, I explore emotional depth, balance, and the complexities of identity.
My art is shaped by personal experience and community. I work from what is familiar: faces influenced by traditional West African masks, patterns and textiles encountered while growing up, and cultural principles instilled in me by family.
Through the layered use of colored pencil, watercolor, and oil pastel, I create landscapes rooted in memory, ancestry, and imagination. These imagined worlds reflect the fluidity of identity and the ongoing process of healing."
